About this page

The idea behind heleri.no

The purpose of heleri.no is to establish an open and accessible dataset consisting of reports from users who have either had their belongings stolen or lost something of value. This can apply to bicycles, boat engines, cars and other valuable items, but also lost belongings such as wallets, keys, passports or missing persons.

The goal is to create an open platform where everyone can search the database, while registered users can report items that have been stolen or lost. The platform makes it possible for people who have relevant information to contact the reporter and help ensure that what is lost can be found again.

Examples of use:

Scenario 1:
You find a bicycle for sale on Finn at a suspiciously low price, and get a feeling that something is not right. You can then go to heleri.no, search for the bike brand or serial number, and check if there are reports in the same county — or in all of Norway — that match the description.

Scenario 2:
You have your boat stolen and report the matter to the police. Although in some cases the case may be dropped due to lack of evidence, you can also register the incident on heleri.no. Even after a case is dropped, the item may reappear with the help of attentive citizens who search the database.

Open dataset and integrations

The dataset should be open and accessible to everyone, with good search options and an API that can be integrated with other services.

An example is that marketplaces such as FINN.no can carry out automatic checks of serial numbers on items that are put up for sale. If an item matches a registered report of stolen goods, the system can, for example:

- block the ad,

- notify the reporter on heleri.no,

- and notify the police.

The possibilities are many, and functionality will be developed continuously.

Status:

As of 20.03.2026, the beta version of heleri.no has been launched. We welcome everyone to contribute to the work of preventing crime and helping to solve cases that might otherwise have been dropped and forgotten.

Important information:

Although heleri.no exists and can help find missing assets, we always recommend that theft or loss is reported to the police as quickly as possible, in addition to registering a report on this page.

Feedback and improvements:

We plan to launch a separate forum for suggestions, feedback and improvement ideas in the near future. Until then, you can contact us via the contact form here:
